For Grande Partenza Event of 109th Giro d’Italia Hosted by Bulgaria Go as Planned

The Caretaker Minister of Youth and Sports, Dimitar Iliev, recently convened an online working meeting with representatives from the institutions tasked with organizing the first three stages of the 2026 Giro d’Italia cycling race in Bulgaria. According to the Ministry of Sports, the meeting addressed the current organizational progress, the coordination among participating bodies, and key upcoming activities. Minister Iliev reviewed the readiness of all involved parties, stressing that effective inter-institutional coordination is paramount for the successful staging of the major international event.

He acknowledged the commitment demonstrated by all stakeholders, stating that while hosting an event of this scale presents a significant challenge, the combined efforts of the institutions build confidence in the successful execution of the competition. Participants confirmed that preparations are proceeding according to the established timeline, with necessary measures being implemented across security, logistics, and general organization. Discussions also covered protocols for ensuring the safety of both competitors and spectators, alongside optimizing the overall conduct of the race.

The itinerary for the stages within Bulgaria has been confirmed. The race is set to officially commence in Nessebar on the Black Sea coast on May 8. The route will subsequently pass through Burgas, Veliko Tarnovo, and Plovdiv, concluding in Sofia on May 10.
