Caretaker Minister of Youth and Sports Dimitar Iliev chaired an online working meeting with representatives from the institutions tasked with organizing Bulgaria’s participation in the first three stages of the 2026 Giro d’Italia cycling race. According to the Ministry of Sports, the meeting on Friday reviewed the current organizational progress, coordination among involved bodies, and planned upcoming activities. Minister Iliev assessed the readiness of the participating entities, stressing that robust inter-institutional coordination is crucial for the successful staging of the event.
He acknowledged the commitment demonstrated thus far, stating that while hosting an event of this magnitude presents a significant challenge, joint efforts ensure confident progress. He affirmed a commitment to continued, fully coordinated work to guarantee the successful hosting of the competition. Attendees confirmed that preparations are proceeding in accordance with the established timeline, with necessary measures being implemented for security, logistics, and overall organization.
Discussions also covered safety protocols for both participants and spectators, alongside ensuring the optimal conduct of the race. The Giro d’Italia in Bulgaria is scheduled to commence in Nessebar on the Black Sea on May 8. The route will subsequently pass through Burgas, Veliko Tarnovo, and Plovdiv, concluding in Sofia on May 10.
