Caretaker Minister of Youth and Sports, Dimitar Iliev, conducted an online working meeting with representatives from the institutions responsible for organizing the first three stages of the 2026 Giro d’Italia cycling race in Bulgaria. According to the Ministry of Sports, the meeting addressed the current organizational progress, the coordination among involved bodies, and upcoming key activities. Minister Iliev reviewed the readiness of the participating parties, stressing the necessity of robust inter-institutional coordination for the successful staging of the event.
He expressed gratitude for the commitment shown thus far, stating that while hosting an event of this magnitude presents a significant challenge, joint efforts are ensuring confident progress. He affirmed a commitment to continued, fully coordinated work to ensure the competition’s success. Attendees confirmed that preparations are proceeding according to the established plan, with measures being implemented for security, logistics, and overall organization.
Discussions also covered safety protocols for both participants and spectators, alongside ensuring the optimal conduct of the race. The 2026 Giro d’Italia will officially commence in Nessebar on the Black Sea on May 8. The route will subsequently pass through Burgas, Veliko Tarnovo, and Plovdiv, concluding in Sofia on May 10.
