The Caretaker Minister of Youth and Sports, Dimitar Iliev, recently convened an online working meeting with representatives from the institutions responsible for organizing the initial three stages of the 2026 Giro d’Italia cycling race in Bulgaria. According to the Ministry of Sports, the meeting addressed the current organizational progress, the coordination among involved agencies, and the schedule of forthcoming key activities. During the session, Minister Iliev reviewed the preparedness levels of all participating bodies, emphasizing that robust inter-institutional coordination is crucial for the successful staging of the event.

He acknowledged the effort involved in hosting an event of this magnitude, stating that the joint efforts of all institutions provided confidence in moving forward with the competition. Participants confirmed that preparations are advancing according to the established timeline, with specific measures being implemented for security, logistics, and overall operational management. Discussions also covered ensuring the safety of both athletes and spectators, alongside optimizing the competition’s flow.

The itinerary for the Giro d’Italia within Bulgaria is set to commence on May 8 in Nessebar on the Black Sea. The race route will subsequently pass through Burgas, Veliko Tarnovo, and Plovdiv, concluding in Sofia on May 10. To facilitate coverage, BTA has launched a dedicated section titled “Giro d’Italia 2026 – Cycling in Bulgaria,” covering the three stages taking place from May 8 to May 10, 2026.
