During her address at the inaugural session of the 52nd National Assembly, Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) MP Nadejda Iordanova stated that her group respects the vote of the Bulgarian people and will assume its role in opposition, asserting they will remain actively involved. Iordanova noted that the Assembly convenes during a period when Bulgarian society is seeking an end to a protracted political crisis, emphasizing that the public demands tangible proof that politics can serve its citizens rather than itself. She acknowledged that the leading political force secured a majority and possesses a mandate, but stressed that this mandate carries the critical responsibility of dismantling the previous political structure.
According to Iordanova, the opposition’s stance is firm: they will support any measure aimed at strengthening the rule of law, modernizing the state, and preserving Bulgaria’s European trajectory. She specified that support will be given to actions compelling regulators to act in the public interest, while opposing policies that merely replace corruption fighting with new dependencies. For Iordanova, the top priority must be justice and anti-corruption efforts, which she stated must translate into daily parliamentary work.
To achieve this, she intends to introduce amendments to the Judiciary Act and work toward electing a new Supreme Judicial Council governed by rules that prevent political maneuvering and ensure professional integrity. Furthermore, she called for audits of the assets of senior judicial figures, a review of the guarding status of top officials, and full transparency in both public procurement and the use of EU funds. Iordanova concluded by asserting that Bulgaria’s place is within a strong European Union, advocating for a state that prioritizes its citizens through functioning public systems, accessible healthcare, and modern education.
