–DB MP Iordanova: We Respect People’s Vote, Will Take Rightful Place as Opposition, But Not Mere Bystanders

During her address at the inaugural session of the 52nd National Assembly, Nadejda Iordanova, representing Democratic Bulgaria, stated that while respecting the electoral outcome, her group would function actively as the opposition. Iordanova noted that the nation is undergoing a political transition, emphasizing that the people are seeking demonstrable proof that politics can serve the citizenry rather than itself. She acknowledged the mandate given to the leading political force, framing it around the critical need to dismantle previous governing models.

According to Iordanova, the opposition’s stance remains firm on defending the rule of law. She asserted that any measure strengthening the legal framework, modernizing the state, and maintaining Bulgaria’s European trajectory would receive their support. Conversely, she vowed to oppose any policy she viewed as replacing anti-corruption efforts with new dependencies.

For Iordanova, the paramount focus must be on justice and combating corruption through daily legislative work. She detailed several key reforms, including proposing amendments to the Judiciary Act and advocating for the election of a Supreme Judicial Council based on professional independence. Furthermore, she called for audits of the assets of top judicial figures, a review of detention protocols for senior officials, and full transparency in EU fund expenditures.

Concluding her remarks, Iordanova stated that the fight for a strong Bulgaria within a strong Europe is not merely a slogan. She emphasized that the country’s place lies within a robust European Union, advocating for a state structure that prioritizes functioning public systems, accessible healthcare, and modern education for its people. The speech underscored that the opposition, through iordanova, would not be mere bystanders in this process.
