Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) MP Nadejda Iordanova addressed the inaugural session of the 52nd National Assembly, stating that while her group respects the vote of the Bulgarian people and accepts the opposition role, they will remain actively engaged. Iordanova noted that the nation seeks an exit from a prolonged political crisis, emphasizing that the public demands clear evidence that politics can serve its citizens, rather than itself. She addressed the majority’s mandate, asserting that the electorate entrusted power to Progressive Bulgaria with a critical task: dismantling what she termed the “Borissov-Peevski model.” Iordanova stressed that the opposition’s stance is firm in defending the rule of law.
She stated that support will be given to any measure that modernizes the state and upholds Bulgaria’s European trajectory, while opposing policies that merely replace corruption fighting with new dependencies. For Iordanova, the top priority must be justice and anti-corruption efforts, requiring concrete parliamentary action. She outlined specific demands, including introducing amendments to the Judiciary Act and working to elect a Supreme Judicial Council based on professional independence.
Furthermore, she called for audits of assets for top judicial officials, transparency in EU fund spending, and a resolution to the national road infrastructure crisis. Concluding her remarks, Iordanova asserted that Bulgaria’s place is within a strong European Union. She emphasized that the goal is a state that cares for its people through functioning public systems, accessible healthcare, and modern education, rather than adhering to outdated political models.
