During his participation at the Delphi Economic Forum, EU Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, stated that the European Union maintains sufficient reserves of aviation fuel, with the capacity to activate emergency stocks for a period extending up to three months. Addressing the ongoing energy crisis, Tzitzikostas indicated that airline cancellations reported by some carriers are more directly related to escalating fuel costs rather than actual supply deficiencies. The Commissioner characterized the current energy situation as historic and projected challenging conditions for the upcoming summer.
He also cautioned that a protracted conflict in the Middle East could lead to severe global repercussions. In other areas, Tzitzikostas detailed the EU’s military mobility plan, which involves the modernization of 500 strategically important sites across the continent. Furthermore, he forecast a notable reduction in tourist arrivals originating from Asia heading to Europe.
The Delphi Forum, which continues through April 25, hosts discussions spanning geopolitics, economics, and technological transformations. The event gathers representatives from governments, international organizations, academia, and the business sector.
