Between Economy Ministry and Employers Is Key to Making Right Decisions, Minister Shtonova Says

Economy and Industry Minister Irina Shtonova addressed the National Council of the Bulgarian Association of Industrial Capital, outlining the measures taken by the caretaker government to support businesses amidst global economic uncertainty. According to the Economy Ministry, the government has worked closely with employers to identify and implement effective support mechanisms. Shtonova detailed adjustments made to address high electricity costs.

Initially, compensation for businesses was calculated over a six-month period; however, after identifying issues, the ministry successfully implemented a change, shifting the calculation to a monthly basis. Furthermore, she highlighted the significance of the European Commission’s approval for temporary state aid, allocating EUR 334 million over three years to sustain energy-intensive enterprises. To mitigate the consequences stemming from the Middle East military conflict, the ministry has introduced several targeted measures designed to support specific sectors without triggering inflationary pressures.

These actions include providing liquidity guarantees for transportation companies and agricultural producers, allowing deferral of lease payments until the end of the year. Additionally, the planned increase in toll fees has been postponed, affecting all economic sectors. The Minister emphasized that ongoing dialogue between the ministry and employers is fundamental to sound decision-making.

She stressed that maintaining this cooperative relationship remains a top priority for the government’s strategy to stabilize the economy.
