Airport Welcomes First Charter Tourists, Launches New Regular Route to Rome

Burgas Airport commenced its tourist season with the arrival of a Jet2.com aircraft from Newcastle. This initial charter flight from the United Kingdom signifies the resumption of regular services, enabling British tourists access to the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. Additionally, on the afternoon of May 1, the airport received its first direct flight from Rome, operated by Ryanair.

According to the airport, this route connecting the Italian capital will operate every Friday and Sunday. These arrivals follow the completion of a significant runway reconstruction project at the airport. The project spanned 170 days and involved an investment of EUR 60 million, replacing the former concrete surface with approximately 127,000 tonnes of asphalt.

In advisory to travelers, the airport has issued notices regarding local traffic disruptions. On May 8, between 12:00 pm and 2:40 pm, major roads in the Burgas region will experience temporary restrictions due to the Giro d’Italia international cycling race. The affected sections include the Sarafovo to Kraimorie district area, Road I-9 up to the Kraimorie road junction, Road I-6 (Sofia–Burgas), and the Northern bypass of Burgas heading toward Sarafovo.

Passengers with flights scheduled during this time are advised to plan their journeys in advance and allow for earlier arrival at the airport.
