Insurance Company Employees, Transport Sector Representatives Protest in Sofia, Demand Financial Regulator’s Resignation

Representatives from the transport sector, alongside clients and employees of DallBogg: Life and Health Insurance, assembled in Sofia on Thursday to protest and demand the resignation of the Financial Supervision Commission (FSC). The joint demonstration, involving various industry organizations and staff from the insurer, took place in front of the buildings of the National Assembly and the Council of Ministers. The protestors are calling for the FSC’s resignation and plan to proceed to the commission’s headquarters following the gathering.

Their primary demands include an immediate cessation of what they term “ongoing repression” against the company and an end to the rising costs associated with mandatory motor third-party liability insurance. The group warned that if their demands are not met, further demonstrations will occur, potentially drawing in other sectors impacted by increasing compulsory insurance premiums. The protest follows the FSC’s action in early April, when the commission imposed a ban on DallBogg from entering into new or extending existing insurance or reinsurance contracts across various classes.

The FSC stated that this measure was implemented to safeguard policyholders’ interests and ensure the company’s solvency, citing breaches of the Insurance Code and market conduct rules as the justification for the restrictions.

  1. It will be interesting to see how the FSC responds to such a large joint protest from key industry sectors.

  2. What specific actions or reforms are the protesters demanding from the Financial Supervision Commission?
