Between Economy Ministry and Employers Is Key to Making Right Decisions, Minister Shtonova Says

During a meeting with the National Council of the Bulgarian Association of Industrial Capital, Caretaker Economy and Industry Minister Irina Shtonova addressed the support measures implemented by the government in response to global uncertainty. The Economy Ministry reported that significant efforts were undertaken to collaborate closely with employers to support businesses during this period. Shtonova detailed specific adjustments made to assist industry amid rising costs.

Initially, compensation for businesses due to high electricity prices was calculated over a six-month period, a measure that proved ineffective. The ministry subsequently implemented a change, adjusting the calculation to a monthly basis. Furthermore, she highlighted the importance of securing European Commission approval for temporary state aid.

This allocation totals EUR 334 million over three years and is designed to maintain the economic viability of energy-intensive enterprises. To mitigate the impacts of the Middle East conflict, the government has introduced targeted measures aimed at supporting specific sectors without triggering inflationary pressures. These additional measures include providing liquidity guarantees for transportation companies and agricultural producers, allowing lease payments to be deferred until the end of the year.

Additionally, the increase in toll fees has been postponed across all economic sectors. Shtonova emphasized that ongoing dialogue between the ministry and employers is fundamental to making informed decisions, a process she stated must continue to guide the national economy.
