363 Kg Marijuana Worth EUR 3 Mln Seized at Lesovo Border Crossing

Customs officers at the Lesovo border crossing seized nearly 363 kilograms of marijuana from a lorry transporting washing machines, the Customs Agency reported on Friday. The seized narcotic substance is estimated to be valued at approximately EUR 3 million at judicial prices. The incident occurred after a lorry bearing Romanian registration arrived at the Lesovo border crossing on the outbound lane from the country.

The driver, identified as a Turkish national, presented documentation asserting that the vehicle was transporting washing machines in transit from Romania to Turkey via Bulgaria, and he declared nothing else for customs inspection. During a thorough inspection conducted by customs officers, authorities discovered 25 boxes situated atop the declared washing machines within the cargo. These boxes contained a total of 338 vacuum-sealed packages of dry green leafy substance.

Field drug tests conducted on the contents confirmed the presence of marijuana. The total weight of the seized marijuana was recorded at 362 kg gross weight. Following the discovery, the driver was detained, and pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in connection with the case.

The Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Yambol is scheduled to submit a request to the court for the imposition of a remand measure of detention in custody.
