The Chilnovski Babi, an authentic folklore group from the village of Chilnov in Bulgaria’s Ruse Region, will participate in the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival. The event is scheduled to take place from May 15 to May 17 at BMW Park in Munich. The group’s artistic director, Stefka Atanasova, announced that they will perform two songs: “Libe le, libe hubavo” and “Song for Bulgaria.”
Atanasova noted that preparations for the festival are proceeding with enthusiasm, especially as the ensemble recently celebrated its 40th anniversary.
She stated that the group, composed of women from various ethnic backgrounds within Bulgaria, aims to bring joy and showcase national traditions. “Age does not prevent us from travelling and enjoying ourselves, from glorifying our homeland with its age-old traditions and timeless virtues,” Atanasova remarked. The group’s history dates back to 1986 in Chilnov, where several women formed the folklore ensemble.
Atanasova recounted that the group formed with a shared commitment to celebrating Bulgarian heritage through song and custom, both domestically and internationally. The Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance festival is dedicated to amateur folklore ensembles performing outside of Bulgaria. Initiated by the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France, the festival has seen editions in 2015 and 2025.
The upcoming 11th edition in Munich anticipates participation from over 100 dance ensembles and an attendance of more than 4,000 guests. The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) serves as the official media partner for the event.
