Folklore Group Chilnovski Babi to Participate in Munich Festival

The authentic folklore group Chilnovski Babi, originating from the village of Chilnov in Bulgaria’s Ruse Region, is set to participate in the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival. This event will take place from May 15 to May 17 at the BMW Park in Munich. According to the group’s artistic director, Stefka Atanasova, Chilnovski Babi will perform two songs: “Libe le, libe hubavo” and “Song for Bulgaria.” Atanasova noted that preparations for the festival are proceeding with enthusiasm, especially as the ensemble recently celebrated its 40th anniversary.

She stated that the group, composed entirely of women from various ethnic backgrounds within Bulgaria, aims to “glorify our homeland with its age-old traditions and timeless virtues.”

The group’s membership spans a wide age range, with the oldest member being 83 and the youngest around 60. Atanasova recounted the founding of the folklore group in 1986 in Chilnov. She described the initial gathering of women who formed the group with the intention of promoting Bulgarian culture through song and custom both domestically and internationally.

The Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance festival is organized for amateur folklore ensembles performing outside Bulgaria. The initiative was first launched by the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France, and is expected to host over 100 dance ensembles and 4,000 guests at the 11th edition in Munich. The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) is serving as the official media partner for the event.
