The Bulgarian Defence Ministry confirmed on Monday that military personnel and equipment belonging to Land Forces units will utilize the country’s comprehensive road and rail network for transportation between April 28 and April 30, 2026. This movement follows the conclusion of scheduled military exercises. The initial phase of the transport will take place on April 28 and 29.
During these dates, personnel and military equipment will be moved from the Koren Training Area, situated in Southern Bulgaria. These units are returning following their participation in the tactical drill known as Defensive Shield 26, which involved the 5th Brigade Command. The movement will traverse key locations including Pleven, Shumen, and Sliven, utilizing both road and rail infrastructure to facilitate the transfer of forces and materiel.
The final movement is scheduled for April 30. On this day, military convoys carrying personnel and necessary equipment will travel along the national road network. These convoys originate from the Novo Selo Training Area in Southeastern Bulgaria, marking the conclusion of recent field training exercises.
Throughout both phases of the logistical operation, the movement of military assets will be secured and overseen by the Military Police Service, ensuring the safe passage of all transported forces and equipment across the national infrastructure. The coordinated use of both road and rail transport underscores the logistical planning involved in concluding large-scale military drills across Bulgaria’s geography.
