Describes Assessment as Key to Energy Efficiency Projects

Minister of Energy Traicho Traikov emphasized the critical role of expert consultation in realizing energy improvement projects, stating that proper initial assessment is fundamental to the entire process. Speaking at the National Meeting of Energy Efficiency Consultants in Sofia, Traikov cautioned that flawed preliminary steps can lead to subsequent stages becoming significantly more expensive and uncertain. Traikov addressed the overarching goal of the European Union, which mandates that the building stock achieve zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

He stressed that this objective is an active process, not a distant target. According to his experience, countries that demonstrate early commitment to meeting these benchmarks tend to secure greater funding and support mechanisms. He highlighted the potential within Bulgaria’s building sector, noting that while current energy efficiency levels are low compared to other European nations, this presents substantial scope for community-transforming improvements.

During the forum, Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, Dora Yankova, announced that the inclusion of lift upgrades in energy renovation projects is being considered, following discussions with relevant agencies and non-governmental groups, given that many local lifts exceed thirty years of age. Addressing the media after the opening, Traikov clarified that any future governmental measures intended to support citizens and businesses facing rising fuel costs would fall under the purview of a future, regular government administration. The event, organized by the Chamber of Energy Auditors and the Association of Bulgarian Cities and Regions, underscored the technical necessity of expert assessment to maximize energy efficiency gains across the nation.
