Accident Numbers Down in First Months of 2026, Says Labour Inspectorate Executive Director

By mid-April 2026, the General Labour Inspectorate reported a decline in the overall number of workplace accidents, according to Executive Director Ekaterina Asenova. Statistics indicate that 126 total accidents have been recorded through this period, a reduction from 157 reported during the same timeframe in 2025. Furthermore, fatal incidents decreased to 26, down from 36 in 2025.

Non-traumatic fatal incidents also showed a reduction, with 14 cases reported compared to 19 in the corresponding year. Asenova noted that data suggests 90% of workplace accidents are preventable if occupational safety rules are adhered to. The primary causes cited include crushing, entrapment, falls from height, and being struck by falling objects.

As of mid-April 2026, the most high-risk sectors identified are construction, crop and livestock farming, metal product manufacturing, and trade.
