52nd National Assembly Opens

The 52nd National Assembly of Bulgaria convened for its inaugural session at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday. According to constitutional protocol, the opening proceedings were conducted by the most senior National Representative present, 78-year-old Rumen Milanov, a Member of Parliament from Progressive Bulgaria.

Addressing the assembled body of lawmakers, Milanov outlined two primary mandates for the newly convened legislature: the restoration of the rule of law and the preservation of national peace. Following his address, he administered the official oath to the 240 deputies. The oath requires representatives to swear before the nation that they will uphold the Constitution and the laws of Bulgaria, pledging to guide all their actions in service of the people’s interests.

The ceremonial opening included the playing of both the Bulgarian national anthem and the anthem of Europe within the debating chamber. Notably, the Members of Parliament belonging to the Vazrazhdane faction remained standing during the rendition of “Ode to Joy.” Upon completion of the formalities, all MPs were directed to sign the official oath documentation and submit it to the administration. The opening marked the commencement of the legislative session for the newly formed national assembly.
