–DB MP Iordanova: We Respect People’s Vote, Will Take Rightful Place as Opposition, But Not Mere Bystanders

During her address at the inaugural sitting of the 52nd National Assembly, Nadejda Iordanova of Democratic Bulgaria stated that her group accepts its role in opposition but vows to remain an active participant in the political process. Iordanova noted that the nation is navigating a protracted political crisis, emphasizing that the people require tangible evidence that politics serves citizens rather than itself. Addressing the mandate secured by the leading political force, Iordanova asserted that the public entrusted power to Progressive Bulgaria with a critical mission: dismantling the previous governing model.

She affirmed the opposition’s commitment to defending the rule of law, arguing that citizens demanded an end to institutional weakness and impunity. Iordanova outlined the opposition’s conditional support, stating they will back any measure strengthening the rule of law and preserving Bulgaria’s European alignment. However, she warned against any policies that she believes replace anti-corruption efforts with new dependencies.

For Iordanova, the primary focus must remain on justice and combating corruption through daily parliamentary action. Specific reforms proposed include amending the Judiciary Act and working to elect a new Supreme Judicial Council based on professional integrity. Furthermore, she called for asset audits of top judicial officials, reviewing security protocols for high-ranking state employees, and ensuring full transparency in EU fund expenditures.

Iordanova concluded by framing Bulgaria’s future within a strong European Union, advocating for a state structure that prioritizes public welfare, accessible healthcare, and modern education for its citizens.
