The 52nd National Assembly commenced its session with the announcement of the six parliamentary groups, as detailed by Parliament Chair Mihaela Dotsova during the inaugural sitting on Thursday. The composition of the groups and their respective leaders was formally presented. Progressive Bulgaria has designated Petar Vitanov as its floor leader, supported by Deputy floor leaders Galin Durev, Vladimir Nikolov, Slavi Vassilev, and Olga Borisova.
GERB-UDF’s floor leader is Boyko Borissov, with Deputy floor leaders Denitsa Sacheva, Kostadin Angelov, and Roumen Hristov. The Movement for Rights and Freedoms named Delyan Peevski as its floor leader, accompanied by Deputy floor leaders Ayten Sabri, Halil Letifov, Hamid Hamid, and Iskra Mihaylova-Koparova. Democratic Bulgaria’s floor leader is Nadejda Iordanova, with Deputy floor leaders Bozhidar Bozhanov and Katya Paneva.
Nikolay Denkov is the floor leader for Continue the Change, whose deputies include Ivaylo Shotev and Tatyana Sultanova-Siveva. Finally, Vazrazhdane’s floor leader is Kostadin Kostadinov, with Peter Petrov serving as the Deputy floor leader. Notably, following their participation in the recent elections as a coalition, Continue the Change (CC) and Democratic Bulgaria (DB) announced a decision on Wednesday to separate into two distinct parliamentary groups.
DB’s leadership characterized this separation as a “serious political mistake,” while CC proposed that the two parties sign an agreement to form a joint parliamentary alliance under the banner of “Strong Bulgaria in a Strong Europe.”
