Folk Dance Troupe from Hamburg Prepares for Travelling Festival in Munich

The RitmiKKa folk dance troupe from Hamburg, Germany, is scheduled to participate in the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival, which will be held in Munich from May 15 to 17. Kamen Kunev, the headmaster and choreographer of the troupe, stated that the performance will feature a dance created approximately 60 years ago by choreographer Zahari Andreev, whose graduate Kunev is. He explained that selecting this specific piece reflects a commitment to preserving the work of late legends in the performing arts.

Kunev emphasized that such cultural expressions remain vibrant and require support. According to him, the dance symbolizes the communal gathering in a village square. He recalled that in previous times, evenings after working in the fields involved gathering around a village fire for music, songs, and dance.

Kunev noted that participating in the festival with this choreography aims to demonstrate that unity in dance persists, regardless of geographical location, asserting that Bulgarian culture remains present wherever Bulgarians gather. The troupe will perform in newly designed costumes, created by fashion designer Nikolay Kolev. Kunev mentioned that the preparations for the dance required an entire season of intensive rehearsals, repeating every detail numerous times.

The Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival is dedicated to amateur folk ensembles performing outside Bulgaria. The initiative was established by the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France, which hosted the first edition in 2015 and the tenth in 2025. The 11th edition in Munich is anticipated to host over 100 dance ensembles and more than 4,000 attendees.

The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) serves as the official media partner for the event, providing coverage for all participants.
