Parliament to Feature Six Parliamentary Groups, Floor Leaders Announced

The 52nd National Assembly was formally structured on Thursday when Parliament Chair Mihaela Dotsova announced the leaderships of the six parliamentary groups during the inaugural sitting. The assembly’s composition revealed the key political groupings and their respective representatives. The six groups announced were Progressive Bulgaria, led by Floor Leader Petar Vitanov, supported by Deputy Floor Leaders Galin Durev, Vladimir Nikolov, Slavi Vassilev, and Olga Borisova.

GERB-UDF named Boyko Borissov as its Floor Leader, with Denitsa Sacheva, Kostadin Angelov, and Roumen Hristov serving as Deputy Floor Leaders. The Movement for Rights and Freedoms designated Delyan Peevski as its Floor Leader, accompanied by Ayten Sabri, Halil Letifov, Hamid Hamid, and Iskra Mihaylova-Koparova as deputy leaders. Democratic Bulgaria appointed Nadejda Iordanova as its Floor Leader, with Bozhidar Bozhanov and Katya Paneva taking on deputy roles.

Nikolay Denkov was named the Floor Leader for Continue the Change, supported by Ivaylo Shotev and Tatyana Sultanova-Siveva. Finally, Vazrazhdane established Kostadin Kostadinov as its Floor Leader, with Peter Petrov serving as the deputy leader. A significant political development preceding the session was the decision by Democratic Bulgaria and Continue the Change to separate into distinct parliamentary groups, despite having contested the recent elections as a coalition.

While DB’s leadership characterized the split as a “serious political mistake,” the CC group issued an invitation for the parties to sign an agreement establishing a joint parliamentary alliance under the banner of “Strong Bulgaria in a Strong Europe.” The respective leaders and deputy leaders now guide their respective factions on the floor.
