Parliament to Feature Six Parliamentary Groups, Floor Leaders Announced

The 52nd National Assembly convened on Thursday, where Parliament Chair Mihaela Dotsova announced the leadership structures for six distinct parliamentary groups. The established groups and their respective leaders and deputy leaders were detailed during the inaugural session. The parliamentary groups are:

* Progressive Bulgaria: The floor leader is Petar Vitanov, supported by deputy floor leaders Galin Durev, Vladimir Nikolov, Slavi Vassilev, and Olga Borisova.

* GERB-UDF: Boyko Borissov serves as the floor leader, with Denitsa Sacheva, Kostadin Angelov, and Roumen Hristov appointed as deputy floor leaders. * Movement for Rights and Freedoms: Delyan Peevski is the floor leader, accompanied by deputy floor leaders Ayten Sabri, Halil Letifov, Hamid Hamid, and Iskra Mihaylova-Koparova. * Democratic Bulgaria: Nadejda Iordanova is the floor leader, supported by Bozhidar Bozhanov and Katya Paneva as deputy floor leaders.

* Continue the Change: Nikolay Denkov leads this group, with Ivaylo Shotev and Tatyana Sultanova-Siveva serving as deputy floor leaders. * Vazrazhdane: Kostadin Kostadinov is the floor leader, and Peter Petrov is named as the deputy floor leader. Prior to this session, the political dynamics saw a notable shift.

Continue the Change (CC) and Democratic Bulgaria (DB), which had contested the recent elections as a coalition, announced a decision on Wednesday to form separate parliamentary groups. The leadership of DB characterized this split as a “serious political mistake,” while CC proposed that the two parties sign an agreement to establish a joint parliamentary alliance under the banner, “Strong Bulgaria in a Strong Europe.”
