Parliament to Feature Six Parliamentary Groups, Floor Leaders Announced

The 52nd National Assembly was formally structured on Thursday when Parliament Chair Mihaela Dotsova announced the leaderships of the six parliamentary groups. The announcement detailed the composition of each faction, outlining their respective floor leaders and deputy leaders. The established groups include Progressive Bulgaria, whose floor leadership is headed by Petar Vitanov, supported by deputies such as Galin Durev and Vladimir Nikolov.

GERB-UDF was led by Boyko Borissov, with Denitsa Sacheva and Kostadin Angelov serving as deputy leaders. The Movement for Rights and Freedoms named Delyan Peevski as its floor leader, alongside Ayten Sabri and Halil Letifov. Democratic Bulgaria named Nadejda Iordanova as its leader, supported by Bozhidar Bozhanov.

Continue the Change (CC) designated Nikolay Denkov as its leader, while Vazrazhdane was led by Kostadin Kostadinov. A notable political development occurred as CC and Democratic Bulgaria, which had campaigned together, announced on Wednesday their decision to operate as two separate parliamentary groups. Following the split, DB’s leadership characterized the move as “a serious political mistake.” Conversely, CC issued an invitation for the two factions to sign an agreement establishing a joint parliamentary alliance under the banner of “Strong Bulgaria in a Strong Europe.” These leadership realignments set the immediate political landscape for the new session of the National Assembly.
