A multimedia language classroom dedicated to studying Bulgarian will open at the Balgarche Bulgarian Sunday School in Tatarbunary, Ukraine, with support from Bulgaria. Svetoslav Ivanov, Consul General of Bulgaria in Odesa, announced the initiative, noting that the project aligns with a broader program supporting Bulgarian communities across several countries. The funding and approval were secured through the Consulate General of Bulgaria in Odesa and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The primary objective of the project is to preserve and develop Bulgarian culture and linguistic identity by integrating modern teaching tools. This effort aims to encourage students of Bulgarian descent to maintain their connection to their ancestral homeland, Bulgaria. According to Ivanov, the support is particularly vital as the school operates within a mixed-population area.
The Bulgarian Sunday School Balgarche was initially established in 2014 under the Tatarbunary Bulgarian Cultural and Educational Society Rodolyubie. Since that time, the school has expanded, opening additional branches in Tatarbunary, Kiliia, and Novoselivka. Beyond language instruction, the school offers various extracurricular workshops, including folk dance, traditional instruments, singing, theatrical arts, and applied folk arts.
Currently, the school supports 341 students in these extracurricular activities, taught by 45 teachers. The institution is a recognized member of the World Association of Bulgarian Schools Abroad. The new multimedia classroom represents a commitment to modernizing the educational experience, ensuring that the teaching of the Bulgarian language remains robust and relevant for the community.
