A multimedia language classroom for studying Bulgarian was opened in Tatarbunary, Ukraine, on May 2, according to Svetoslav Ivanov, Consul General of Bulgaria in Odesa. Ivanov stated that the project is supported by the Council of Ministers Decree No. 224 of October 30, 2025, and falls under a broader program supporting Bulgarian communities in several countries, including Ukraine.
The initiative was proposed by the Tatarbunary Bulgarian Cultural and Educational Society Rodolyubie, which operates the school. The primary objective of the project is to preserve and advance Bulgarian culture and linguistic identity. By utilizing modern teaching tools, the school aims to motivate students of Bulgarian origin to acquire knowledge and sustain their historical connections with Bulgaria.
Ivanov noted the importance of this support, particularly as the school operates within a mixed-population area. The Bulgarian Sunday School Balgarche was initially established in 2014. During the 2016–2017 academic year, the institution expanded by opening additional branches in Tatarbunary, Kiliia, and the village of Novoselivka.
Beyond language instruction, the school offers workshops covering folk dance, traditional instruments, singing, theatrical folk art, and applied folk arts. Currently, the school supports 341 students in extracurricular activities, supported by 45 teachers across its various branches. The facility, which serves as a vital educational hub, is a member of the World Association of Bulgarian Schools Abroad.
