A multimedia language classroom dedicated to the study of Bulgarian will open on May 2 in Tatarbunary, Ukraine. Svetoslav Ivanov, the Consul General of Bulgaria in Odesa, confirmed the initiative, stating that the project adheres to Council of Ministers Decree No. 224 of October 30, 2025, and falls under a broader program supporting Bulgarian communities across several nations, including Ukraine.
Ivanov explained that the funding was approved through eight project proposals, with the assistance of the Consulate General of Bulgaria in Odesa and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The specific proposal was submitted by the Tatarbunary Bulgarian Cultural and Educational Society Rodolyubie, which operates the school. The primary objective of the project is to preserve and advance Bulgarian culture and linguistic identity by integrating modern teaching tools.
Furthermore, the initiative aims to encourage students of Bulgarian descent to acquire knowledge and maintain historical connections with their ancestral homeland. The support is particularly vital as the Bulgarian Sunday School operates within a mixed-population area. Established in 2014, the school expanded its reach, opening branches in Tatarbunary, Kiliia, and Novoselivka during the 2016–2017 academic year.
Beyond formal instruction, the institution offers workshops in areas such as folk dance, traditional instruments, singing, theater, and applied folk arts. Currently, the school supports 341 students in extracurricular activities through 45 teachers. The Bulgarian Sunday School Balgarche is a recognized member of the World Association of Bulgarian Schools Abroad.
