Language Classroom Will Open at Bulgarian Sunday School in Tatarbunary

A multimedia language classroom dedicated to the study of Bulgarian was opened in Tatarbunary, Ukraine, on May 2, with support from Bulgaria, according to statements from Svetoslav Ivanov, Consul General of Bulgaria in Odesa. Ivanov noted that the project aligns with Council of Ministers Decree No. 224 of October 30, 2025, and falls under a broader program supporting Bulgarian communities across several nations, including Ukraine.

The initiative, proposed by the Tatarbunary Bulgarian Cultural and Educational Society Rodolyubie, aims to preserve and advance Bulgarian culture and linguistic identity. By employing modern teaching tools, the school seeks to encourage students of Bulgarian origin to acquire knowledge and maintain historical connections with Bulgaria. The support is deemed particularly important as the school operates within a mixed-population area.

The Bulgarian Sunday School Balgarche was initially established in 2014. During the 2016–2017 academic year, the institution expanded by opening three additional branches in Tatarbunary, Kiliia, and Novoselivka. Beyond the core curriculum, the school offers extracurricular workshops covering folk dance, traditional instruments, singing, theatrical arts, and applied folk arts.

The institution currently serves a community of 341 students participating in these activities, supported by 45 teachers across its various branches. The Bulgarian Sunday School Balgarche is a member of the World Association of Bulgarian Schools Abroad.
