The Cyprus-based folk formation Sovatchii is scheduled to participate in the 11th edition of the traveling festival, Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance. This event will take place from May 15 to 17 at the BMW Park in Munich. According to the group’s artistic director, Teodosi Teodosiev, Sovatchii will perform as a chamber ensemble.
Their performance will feature a segment of “Dances from Southeast Bulgaria,” which was choreographed by Todor Bekirski and set to music by Stefan Chapkanov. Teodosiev noted that the piece possesses a strong stage presence and powerful emotional impact. Sovatchii was established on October 1, 2015, by Teodosiev, who remains the group’s artistic director and choreographer.
Over its operational history, the based group has become an active organizer of major annual festivals within Cyprus. Its primary objective is to unite Bulgarian school and amateur ensembles, alongside singers and musicians across various age demographics. The Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance festival is designed for and organized by amateur folklore ensembles performing outside of Bulgaria.
The initiative was initially launched by the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France, which hosted both the first edition in 2015 and the tenth edition in 2025. The 11th edition in Munich anticipates participation from over 100 dance ensembles and an attendance of more than 4,000 guests. The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) serves as the official media partner for the event and will feature all participating groups.
