Director General: By Organizing Talks about April Uprising, BTA Took Step towards People

During a conference addressing the April Uprising, Milen Mitev, the Director General of Bulgarian National Radio (BNR), stated that BTA’s initiative to host discussions was crucial for media relevance. Mitev argued that in the contemporary environment, media outlets must proactively engage their audiences to remain useful. The event concluded a series organized by BTA marking the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising.

Mitev advised that a thorough understanding of both international contexts and domestic history is necessary to accurately assess the present and chart a path forward. He emphasized the significant role of the media in this process, given its influence on public opinion. According to the Director General, the commitment shown by the participants of the April Uprising—their hope and willingness to make sacrifices—forms the basis of many significant narratives.

Mitev highlighted the April Uprising as a pivotal historical event leading to the establishment of an independent Bulgarian state. While stressing the importance of national pride, he cautioned that this sentiment is often manipulated. Therefore, he asserted that the responsibility of scholars and the media is to cultivate national self-esteem responsibly.

This involves fostering pride in the nation’s history and accomplishments while simultaneously working toward continuous improvement.
