Director General of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA), Kiril Valchev, stated that discussions commemorating the 150th anniversary of the 1876 April Uprising serve to remember the martyrs who fought for Bulgarian freedom. He addressed this while speaking at a conference held at the Historical Museum in Panagyurishte, which concluded a series of nationwide discussions organized by the BTA. The commemorative events spanned several revolutionary districts, including Veliko Tarnovo, Sliven, Vratsa, and Giurgiu.
During these talks, participants discussed key lessons derived from the April Uprising, emphasizing the necessity of defining overarching goals before undertaking difficult steps. Valchev noted that the consensus reached was that the uprising’s perceived failure ultimately contributed to Bulgaria’s eventual freedom. He drew parallels between historical struggle and modern times, stressing the power of media to shape public opinion and support a nation’s cause.
Valchev also presented insights from Zahari Stoyanov’s Notes on the Bulgarian Uprisings, advising leaders to remain active, avoid personal enrichment, and guard against their followers succumbing to despair. The commemoration involved extensive tributes, including ceremonies in Ruseto, Giurgiu, Vratsa
