On May 2, 1974, a fashion show took place in Ruse on the Danube, featuring presentations from several major Bulgarian manufacturing enterprises. According to preserved archival photos from BTA, the event showcased new models from various fashion houses, including Boriana from Cherven Bryag, Arda from Ruse, Sanya from Pleven, Burya from Gabrovo, Druzhba from Varna, Mizia in Pleven, and a representative from Plovdiv. One of the photographs captured the young pop singer Tanya Emilova performing for the audience during the event.
The context of the industry was defined by the People’s Republic of Bulgaria (1946–1989), where fashion and textile manufacturing operated under a centrally planned, state-owned system. Production efforts were geared toward achieving mass output for both the domestic market and export to other Eastern Bloc (Comecon) nations, primarily the Soviet Union. The participating companies each had established histories.
