By mid-April 2026, the General Labour Inspectorate reported a decline in the overall number of workplace accidents. According to Executive Director Ekaterina Asenova, 126 workplace accidents had been reported through this date, a decrease compared to the 157 recorded during the same period in 2025. Fatal workplace accidents stood at 26, down from 36 in the corresponding 2025 period, and non-traumatic fatal incidents decreased to 14 from 19.
Asenova noted that statistics indicate that 90% of workplace accidents are preventable if occupational safety rules are followed. Common causes identified include crushing, being trapped, falls from height, and being struck by falling objects. As of mid-April 2026, high-risk sectors remain construction, crop and livestock farming, the manufacture of metal products (excluding machinery and equipment), and trade.
