-Based Sovatchii Folk Group to Perform Southeast Bulgarian Dances in Munich

The Cyprus-based folk ensemble Sovatchii is scheduled to participate in the 11th iteration of the traveling festival, Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance. The event is set to take place at BMW Park in Munich from May 15th to May 17th. According to the group’s artistic director, Teodosi Teodosiev, Sovatchii will present a kamerna formation piece.

The performance, which draws from “Dances from Southeast Bulgaria,” was choreographed by Todor Bekirski and features music by Stefan Chapkanov. Teodosiev noted that the work possesses a strong stage presence. Sovatchii was established on October 1, 2015, by Teodosiev, who also serves as the artistic director and choreographer.

Beyond their participation in international events, the group has become a key organizer of major annual festivals within Cyprus. Their mission centers on uniting Bulgarian school and amateur ensembles, alongside singers and musicians of various age groups. The Expats Join Hands festival is dedicated to amateur folklore ensembles performing outside of Bulgaria.

The initiative was originally launched by the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France, which hosted both the inaugural edition in 2015 and the tenth edition in 2025. For the 11th edition in Munich, organizers anticipate attendance from over 100 dance ensembles and an audience exceeding 4,000 guests. The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) is serving as the official media partner for the event, responsible for presenting all participating groups.
