Caretaker Economy and Industry Minister Irina Shtonova stated at a meeting of the National Council of the Bulgarian Association of Industrial Capital that the caretaker government’s tenure began amid rising global uncertainty. According to the Economy Ministry’s report on Friday, the ministry collaborated closely with employers to identify support measures for businesses. Shtonova noted that an initial focus was adjusting the calculation method for monthly business compensation due to elevated electricity costs.
She reported that the initial six-month calculation proved ineffective, allowing the ministry to promptly implement a change to a monthly basis. Furthermore, she highlighted the significance of the European Commission’s approval for temporary state aid, amounting to EUR 334 million over three years, intended to sustain energy-intensive enterprises. To mitigate the effects of the Middle East military conflict, the ministry has implemented several measures, carefully targeting specific sectors to support businesses without generating further inflationary pressure.
These measures include providing liquidity support for transportation companies and agricultural producers. The government has guaranteed lease agreements for these sectors, enabling payment deferrals until the end of the year. Additionally, the increase in toll fees has been postponed, impacting all economic sectors.
Shtonova emphasized that ongoing dialogue between the ministry and employers is crucial for sound decision-making, calling it a top priority that should continue to be built upon.
