Between Economy Ministry and Employers Is Key to Making Right Decisions, Minister Shtonova Says

Caretaker Economy and Industry Minister Irina Shtonova addressed the National Council of the Bulgarian Association of Industrial Capital, noting that the caretaker government’s tenure began amidst escalating global uncertainty. The Economy Ministry reported on Friday that during this period, the ministry collaborated closely with employers to develop effective support measures for businesses. Shtonova highlighted initial discussions regarding the calculation of monthly compensation for businesses impacted by elevated electricity costs.

She stated that the initial six-month calculation proved ineffective, leading to a swift revision to a monthly calculation method. Furthermore, she emphasized the significance of the European Commission’s approval for temporary state aid, totaling EUR 334 million over three years, intended to sustain energy-intensive enterprises. Addressing the repercussions of the Middle East conflict, Shtonova detailed several supplementary measures designed to mitigate economic fallout while avoiding inflationary pressures.

These actions include providing liquidity support for transportation companies and agricultural producers. To assist these sectors, the government is guaranteeing lease agreements, allowing payment deferrals until the end of the year. Additionally, the increase in toll fees has been postponed, affecting all economic sectors.

The minister concluded by stressing that dialogue between the ministry and employers is crucial for sound decision-making, a process she intends to maintain and build upon. These measures underscore the government’s ongoing efforts to stabilize the economy amid global volatility.
