Between Economy Ministry and Employers Is Key to Making Right Decisions, Minister Shtonova Says

During a meeting with the National Council of the Bulgarian Association of Industrial Capital, caretaker Economy and Industry Minister Irina Shtonova addressed measures taken to support businesses amid global uncertainty. The Economy Ministry reported that the government actively collaborated with employers to identify effective support mechanisms for the sector. Shtonova highlighted immediate changes implemented following discussions with industry representatives.

Specifically, the initial method for calculating monthly compensation for businesses due to high electricity prices, which was based on a six-month period, was revised to a monthly calculation to improve efficacy. Furthermore, the Minister noted the significance of the European Commission’s approval for temporary state aid, allocating EUR 334 million over three years to maintain the economic viability of energy-intensive enterprises. To mitigate the consequences stemming from the military conflict in the Middle East, the ministry introduced targeted support measures designed to avoid exacerbating inflationary pressures.

These measures include providing liquidity guarantees for transportation companies and agricultural producers, allowing for the deferral of lease payments until the end of the year. Additionally, the increase in toll fees has been postponed across all affected economic sectors. The Minister emphasized that ongoing dialogue between the ministry and employers is crucial for sound decision-making.

She stated that maintaining this consultative process remains a top priority for the government as it continues to manage the national economy.
