Warner Bros Discovery Bulgaria, the rights holder for broadcasting the Giro d’Italia, has issued guidelines for cycling enthusiasts planning to attend the race stages in Bulgaria. While viewers can follow every moment of the competition from home via Eurosport and HBO Max, attending in person provides a distinct experience. All stages will remain available on demand in HBO Max’s “Sport” section for at least one month post-race.
Spectators should note that start and finish zones are restricted areas, with access limited to organizers, teams, media, and accredited personnel. Due to early closures, arriving late is not advised because visibility may be poor and prime viewing spots may already be occupied. Furthermore, visitors must anticipate walking, sometimes over significant distances, as designated spectator parking areas are unavailable.
Close proximity to riders is generally possible near team bus parking areas, typically at finish zones and less frequently at starts. Fans are encouraged to support the riders through applause and participation in the atmosphere. Crucially, spectators must not step onto the roadway.
If they do, they must move away well in advance of the riders’ arrival to prevent endangerment. Loose items like bags or cameras should be secured, as they could snag passing cyclists. Road crossings should only occur when it is absolutely clear that no riders are approaching at high speed, and all instructions from race stewards must be followed, especially at start and finish areas.
Spectators are advised against attempting to take water bottles directly from riders, though polite requests may yield positive results. In team bus areas, vigilance is required, as riders may still be experiencing adrenaline or irritation, and spectators should remain alert for returning cyclists.
