, Bulgaria, Amplifies Idea for Joint Political Project Among Reformist Parties

Following the proposal by the Yes, Bulgaria, party to form a coalition agreement with Continue the Change (CC) and Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB), co-leader Bozhidar Bozhanov indicated that dialogue remains viable with CC, emphasizing that the focus remains on the voters. Speaking on bTV on Monday, Bozhanov noted that the parties share significant common ground, citing judicial reform as a key area of overlap. While the three parties have been informally collaborating since February 2023, the current development centers on formalizing a coalition pact.

A potential long-term idea discussed is the merging of the coalition members into a single political entity. In a separate interview on Monday, Yes, Bulgaria co-leader Ivaylo Mirchev addressed the possibility of unification with DSB and CC, stating that such a merger hinges on the agreement of all involved groups. Mirchev acknowledged the success of the informal cooperation but suggested that the electorate expects a more consolidated political platform.

He stressed the immediate need to establish a unified presidential candidate, adding that he was confident the collective would select a strong contender. The ongoing discussions underscore the evolving political landscape in Bulgaria. Mirchev also commented on the current political administration, describing the caretaker Prime Minister, Andrey Gurov, as possibly the most successful caretaker prime minister in the nation’s history.

These statements highlight the ongoing negotiations among the key political actors regarding the structure and platform for the country’s future governance.

  1. It will be interesting to see if this proposed coalition can maintain focus on policy rather than internal negotiations.
