One hundred and fifty citizens from across all European Union member states are participating in the second session of the European Citizens’ Panel on Preparedness, convening online from April 24 to 26. The discussions aim to generate concrete strategies detailing how EU residents can enhance their readiness for future crises. The objective is to ensure that actions guided by the EU preparedness union strategy are both inclusive and directly responsive to the needs of the citizenry.
Participants are delving deeper into key priorities previously identified during their March sessions. These areas of focus include robust citizen engagement, comprehensive education, fostering solidarity and inclusion, maintaining the integrity of communication channels—specifically combating disinformation—and refining overall crisis management protocols across Europe. Among the attendees are four Bulgarians, representing the locations of Sofia, Burgas, Isperih, and Reberkovo.
Antoaneta Petkova, representing Reberkovo, noted the group’s continued focus on proposals, particularly the implementation of educational training covering both theoretical and practical aspects of crisis response for all age groups. She indicated that the panel will also examine four additional concepts related to disaster and crisis response. The plenary sessions are accessible live via the panel’s dedicated website, allowing stakeholders to follow the development of these crucial recommendations designed to strengthen Europe’s collective response mechanisms.
