Bulgarians Join EU Citizens’ Crisis Preparedness Online Debate

A group of 150 citizens from various European Union member states are convening online from April 24 to 26 for the second session of the European Citizens’ Panel on Preparedness. The discussions aim to develop tangible recommendations for enhancing the EU’s capacity to manage future shocks, ensuring that actions derived from the EU preparedness union strategy are both inclusive and responsive to the needs of the populace. Participants are deepening the analysis of priorities identified during earlier discussions in March.

Key focus areas include citizen engagement, education, solidarity, and inclusion, alongside maintaining the integrity of communication—which encompasses combating disinformation and misinformation—and comprehensive crisis management across Europe. Among the attendees are four Bulgarians, representing Sofia, Burgas, Isperih, and Reberkovo. Antoaneta Petkova, a participant from Reberkovo, expressed hope that the group, which includes representatives from Germany, Italy, and the Czech Republic, will continue to discuss previously highlighted proposals.

Specifically, she noted the importance of introducing educational training for all age groups, covering both theoretical knowledge and practical skills related to crisis response. Petkova also mentioned that four additional concepts concerning disaster and crisis response will be addressed during the sessions. The plenary session will be streamed live via the panel’s official website.
