The Camping & Caravaning Expo 2026 opened on Friday and will continue through Sunday at the former Sofia Land park area. Organized by Camping.BG, this forum marks the 12th consecutive year, having debuted in 2018. This year, 99 exhibitors from Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, and Germany are participating, with expectations of drawing over 12,000 visitors.
The expo showcases the latest trends in campers, caravans, and recreational vehicles, alongside products for camping, water sports, cycling, and outdoor activities. According to Camping.BG founder Veselin Valev, interest in camping tourism in Bulgaria is increasing. Valev noted that while equipment costs vary widely—from approximately EUR 100 to EUR 100,000 for campers—alternatives like towable trailers exist for different budgets.
He advised that campers are better suited for varied travel and short stops, whereas caravans are more appropriate for extended stays in one location. Organizers recommend beginners start at regulated campgrounds, which offer amenities like showers and toilets, as wild camping can be less comfortable. Bulgaria currently has over 200 campsites, with the inland sites noted for higher service levels.
The expo also addresses infrastructure challenges, emphasizing the need for quality roads to support tourism growth. The event offers educational sessions throughout the weekend, covering topics such as converting vans into campervans, solar power, and responsible travel. The final day focuses on sustainable camping, featuring presentations on global travel experiences, including journeys through South America and Iceland, alongside ecological activities.
