According to spa manager Nikolay Popov, the spa centre at the Azalia Hotel in the Sts Constantine and Helena resort is seeing increased patronage from guests originating from the Netherlands and Poland. Popov attributes this appeal to the centre’s utilization of natural healing resources, which combine mineral water, seawater, lye, and healing mud. He also highlighted the high level of satisfaction among visitors regarding the extensive experience of the on-site specialists.
Balneological therapies are particularly popular among individuals over 60, with common treatments addressing musculoskeletal issues, herniated discs, and lower back pain—conditions affecting nearly three-quarters of older adults. Lyubomir Stamboliyski, Commercial Director at Sts Constantine & Helena Holding AD, noted that the pandemic catalyzed a trend of increased health consciousness among younger demographics. He anticipates this focus will drive sustained growth in spa and wellness tourism.
Stamboliyski pointed out that the average age seeking rehabilitation and preventive services is decreasing, moving from the 40–45 range to approximately 28–31. Furthermore, the services offered by the centre are evolving from fixed packages to individualized protocols, mirroring medical industry standards. These comprehensive programs extend beyond treatments using thermal water, mud, or specialized equipment to include guidance on diet, physical activity, and the use of supplements or homeopathic remedies.
To develop these protocols, the company collaborates with external physicians nationwide, facilitating online consultations. The resort attracts international visitors from Germany and the Czech Republic, signaling a rising interest in medical and spa tourism across the Balkans. BTA is participating in the BG SPA: Salus per aquam initiative, which is linked to the upcoming HEALTHXCHANGE SUMMIT in 2026.
