Community Centres Have Bright Future, President Says

President Iliana Iotova addressed the National Representative Committee regarding the 170-Year Anniversary of the National Community Centres, asserting that these institutions possess a bright future in the 21st century. Speaking on Thursday, Iotova noted that these centers have historically played a vital role in forming the Bulgarian community, predating the reemergence of the Bulgarian State. The meeting, attended by committee leadership, local officials, and media representatives, focused on crucial operational matters.

Participants discussed the necessity of establishing robust funding measures for public community centers, alongside strategies for the conservation and renovation of existing buildings. Attendees reviewed the current legal framework governing these vital cultural hubs and expressed a strong desire among Bulgarian communities abroad to establish new public centers. Currently, the region of Edirne hosts only one branch, originating from the Prosveta 1870 National Community Centre in Svilengrad, Southern Bulgaria.

Iotova emphasized that the further development of these community centers should be considered a priority for all national institutions. Committee members conveyed their hope that the National Assembly and the incoming government will accord greater importance to cultural policies. During the session, representatives commended the President for her sustained support of the centers’ initiatives over the years.

Iotova reaffirmed the Presidential institution’s full support for the planned anniversary events, solidifying the ongoing commitment to these cultural centers.
