Cultural Centre in Skopje to Host Exhibition Marking 150th Anniversary of April Uprising

The “For the Freedom of a Nation” exhibition, organized by the St. St. Cyril and Methodius National Library and the State Archives Agency, is scheduled to open at the Bulgarian Cultural and Information Centre in Skopje on Tuesday.

The display commemorates the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising. The exhibition features an extensive collection of over 130 documents. These primary sources—including protocols, letters, telegrams, appeals, and certificates—detail the entire scope of the April Uprising, covering its preparation, progression, suppression, and subsequent consequences.

The materials offer diverse viewpoints, presenting not only the international response to the revolt but also crucial Ottoman documents that provide insight into the perspectives of both local and central Ottoman authorities. Among the featured authors are prominent historical figures of the era, such as Hristo Botev, Vasil Levski, Lyuben Karavelov, and Stefan Stambolov. The display presents a mix of well-known and previously undocumented materials, some of which are being shown for the first time.

The scope of the exhibition traces events across all revolutionary districts
