Cultural Centre in Skopje to Host Exhibition Marking 150th Anniversary of April Uprising

The “For the Freedom of a Nation” exhibition, organized by the St. St. Cyril and Methodius National Library and the State Archives Agency, commenced on Tuesday at the Bulgarian Cultural and Information Centre in Skopje.

The display commemorates the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising. The exhibition features an extensive collection of over 130 primary documents. These materials, which include protocols, personal letters, telegrams, appeals, and certificates, offer comprehensive documentation detailing the preparation, progression, suppression, and subsequent consequences of the historical uprising.

Furthermore, the exhibits provide insight into the international reaction to the events. A notable aspect of the collection is the inclusion of Ottoman documents, which offer perspectives from both local and central Ottoman authorities regarding the period. Among the sources documented are significant figures of the era, such as Hristo Botev, Vasil Levski, Lyuben Karavelov, and Stefan Stambolov.
