Dance Groups from Essen and Krefeld to Perform Jointly in Munich

The dance ensembles “Shevitsa” from Essen, Germany, and “Mila Rodina” from Krefeld, Germany, are collaborating for their first joint performance. Under the combined banner of “Shevitsi from Mila Rodina,” the two groups will participate in the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival. The event is scheduled to take place from May 15 to May 17 at the BMW Park in Munich.

According to the group’s leader, Ivandzhelin Ivanova, the collaboration stems from a mutual commitment to preserving and promoting Bulgarian culture internationally. The participating members are preparing to perform “Shopska Zakachka” (“Shopi tease”), a piece choreographed by Iliya Petkov. This dance is inspired by traditional folklore from the Shopluk region, aiming to recreate the spirited and playful atmosphere characteristic of Bulgarian village gatherings.

The ensemble comprises 22 dancers, representing an age range from 14 to over 60. Many of the participants have roots in Bulgaria, despite having been born or raised in Germany. Preparation for the festival has involved intensive weekly rehearsals, alongside the creation of specialized costumes and accessories.

This traveling festival serves as a gathering point for amateur Bulgarian folklore groups from various countries. Since its inception in 2015, the event has featured performances across several European cities, providing a platform for cultural exchange through dance.
