Dance Groups from Essen and Krefeld to Perform Jointly in Munich

The dance ensembles “Shevitsa” from Essen, Germany, and “Mila Rodina” from Krefeld, Germany, will collaborate for their debut joint performance at the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival. This event is scheduled to take place from May 15 to 17 at the BMW Park in Munich. The collaboration, operating under the name “Shevitsi from Mila Rodina,” is motivated by a shared commitment to preserving and promoting Bulgarian culture abroad through dance.

According to their leader, Ivandzhelin Ivanova, the partnership aims to showcase Bulgarian folklore. The groups will perform “Shopska Zakachka” (“Shopi tease”), a piece choreographed by Iliya Petkov. This routine draws inspiration from traditional dances of the Shopluk folklore region, aiming to recapture the spirited and playful atmosphere characteristic of village celebrations.

The ensemble comprises 22 dancers, representing a range of ages from 14 to over 60. Many members were born or raised in Germany but maintain significant ties to their Bulgarian heritage. Preparations for the performance have involved intensive, multiple weekly rehearsals, alongside the creation of specialized costumes and accessories.

This traveling festival gathers amateur Bulgarian folklore groups from various international locations and has been hosted in several European cities since its inception in 2015. The joint participation of the groups from essen and Krefeld highlights the ongoing dedication to cultural exchange through dance.
