Three-day commemorations marking the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising commenced in Panagyurishte on Thursday. The initial events featured the “150 Greetings from Around the World” initiative, where video messages were received from children and youth spanning the globe. Following this, a theatrical play was staged, based on Stefan Tsanev’s work, Children of the World.
During his address, Panagyurishte Mayor Zhelyazko Gagov acknowledged the attendees for their dedication to preserving historical memory, stating that their presence affirmed a collective connection to Bulgaria. Notable figures present included BTA Director General Kiril Valchev, Bulgarian National Radio Director General Milen Mitev, Professor Georgi Valchev, the Rector of the St Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia, and journalist Boyko Vassilev, who is a presenter for the Bulgarian National Television’s Panorama show. Earlier in the day, participants attended a conference organized by BTA and hosted by the Panagyurishte History Museum, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the Uprising.
The celebrations are scheduled to continue with a 150 Flamesshow at the 20 April Square in Panagyurishte. The global participation, exemplified by the greetings from around the world, underscored the significance of the historical milestone observed in Panagyurishte.
